CONTEMPORARY AWARD WINNER
This award winning home was designed to maximize City views, taking full advantage of a sloped site adjacent to a protected natural landscape. The house was designed to frame the views from within and outside of the building envelope. A strong axial plan is created from a soaring concrete wall that delineates the private from public spaces. Walled courtyards on different levels of the site extend the interior spaces. The open design is intended to grow and mature with the young family, encouraging their interests and activities while permitting a healthy separation. The second story master bedroom connects to the private gym on the ground level. A playroom adjoining the children's bedrooms compliments the entertaining spaces on the levels above.

TWO BUILDINGS THAT WORK AS ONE HOME
Originally two small historic homes, this structure functioned as an artist studio before being converted to meet the different needs of a family with inherent artistic sensibilities. All the rooms were renovated and refurbished; reconfigured to create a unified sensibility while maintaining a connection to the building's fluid past. The living spaces were furnished with modern classics as was the New York apartment sized kitchen.
Residential
RESIDENCE INTERIOR
The use of unexpected materials such as concrete and recycled plastic panels are used to define the home's living spaces and serve as a complimentary backdrop for contemporary lighting fixtures and furnishings, rich fabrics and custom upholstery and casework.
Residential
HOUSE REMODEL WITH A VIEW
The initial remodel of a kitchen offered the opportunity to expand the scale and scope of the project. Living areas were open to light and views and the residence was contemporized with new surface materials, casework and furnishings.
Landscape
NATIVE PLANTING TO COMPLIMENT A REGIONAL RESIDENTIAL STYLE
A stand of existing mature prickly pear cactus is mixed with native chamisa, sage, penstemon and sedum. An existing Russian olive was pruned to become a featured specimen and natural archway. The entry is organized and tied together with a wide curved flagstone path.
Landscape
A LANDSCAPE PLAN DESIGNED TO UNIFY SITE AND HOUSE
To create an outside kitchen and living area, a covered pavilion compliments the newly renovated craftsman style home. A dated kidney shape swimming pool was replaced with a waterfall and wedge of water as a unifying element making way for a productive flower and vegetable garden. Changes in the site elevation provided a space for planting, privacy and architectural interest.
Landscape
COURTYARD KOI POND
A fountain and deep pool was designed for viewing from the interior living spaces into the courtyard of this contemporary home. A waterfall and planting areas are integrated with the landscape using both plant and construction materials that patina with age.
Landscape
LANDSCAPE FOR A COMMUNITY COMPOUND
A common vegetable garden, a gathering space with an adjacent meadow of wildflowers at the entry and individual garden plots at each unit are the major features comprising the landscape plan for this community complex of apartments. The sloped site was regraded and planted with native and drought tolerant species to best utilize and capture drainage and water runoff for irrigation. The new architecture limited construction to minimize disruption of the existing mature trees and allowed for reworking the circulation for maximum accessibility.
Landscape
MID-CENTURY MODERN LANDSCAPE
To soften the stark lines of a classic 60's residence, the front yard, anchored by a mature conifer, utilizes grasses, yuccas, hyssop, and nandina to soften the lines and materials of this modern house. The rear, side yards and interior courtyard continue the balance of structured organization to contain and highlight the texture and wild beauty of grasses and perennials.
Landscape
A SLOPED LANDSCAPE
Terraced stairs, patios and gardens are integrated in this landscape design, grounding the steep terrain and connecting the site with the angular movement of the house's architecture. Distinct areas are given identity yet remain a part of the whole; a meditation area shares space with a flower garden, retaining walls anchor the design to the building's architecture; terraces, gardens, walls and water fit together like a puzzle.
Landscape
URBAN OFFICE COURTYARD
A barren lot was transformed into a formal entry courtyard balancing hardscape and hardy drought tolerant plant species.
Our landscape designs begin with acknowledgment of the opportunities the project affords to create graceful transitions between the built and natural environment. Plant selection is made according to conditions of climate, water usage, scale, seasonal appropriateness, and perpetuity.
Our residential projects range from new homes to remodels, building additions, and historic renovations. We offer complete interior design services including customized furnishings, as well as site and space planning, materials selection, and construction detailing. We are extraordinarily sensitive to site and environmental context. Remodels and additions are designed in response to the original building design and reflect our client's unique tastes and style.
Every commercial project we undertake distinctly expresses the client's character and program. The featured projects, which are organized by category listed below, show new buildings, remodeled buildings and renovations, as well as buildings of historic merit.
